Staff Star – we talk to John
I have been chair at a local community centre within the West End of the City of Newcastle called Murray House. I have been chair for 6 years. The legacy of the building dates back to the 1930’s. The centre operates and relies solely on volunteers. We developed a well established play and youth group that operated from the building 4 nights per week which was our core work. We also had a healthy income from private rentals for use of our full sized indoor 5 aside football court, meeting rooms and Asian weddings.

Young people aged 6-19 attended various sessions focussed on personal development and fun!

We were approached from Newcastle United Foundation with the possibility of a asset transfer approx 18 months ago. The management committee made the brave decision to go ahead with this and this is what Murray House will look like in a year or 2 to come…..
