"In my short time as Chair, I have become convinced that our Advantaged Thinking approach really works. We need to share it, build our movement and ensure that those who engage with our services get the best possible start to their adult lives." Alastair Wilson, Chair of Trustees
2021-22 was an exciting year for the Foyer Federation as we shifted into a new gear and went full steam ahead under our new Home for Advantaged Thinking strategy.
In May 2021, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of Advantaged Thinking with a sector-wide event, sharing stories and inspiration with more than 100 people from all around the world. And the party didn't stop there – in January 2022, the Foyer Federation turned 30! Our brand-new Adventures in Advantaged Thinking publication was how we celebrated, sharing the evidence for and impact of an Advantaged Thinking approach.
The four 'rooms' of our strategy all began taking shape:
- Room A's focus on youth leadership and power encouraged us to challenge ourselves and our members to work in new youth-led ways, including our Youth Power Fund grant-making programme and welcoming young Trustees to our board.
- In Room B, we saw our member services deepening their impact and continually improving their offer through participation in our accreditation and training.
- Our birthday parties took place in Room C, celebrating and growing the movement for Advantaged Thinking, as well as the Room for Young People awards.
- In Room D, is continued to grow and nurture our fantastic community – both the incredible Foyers that work so hard so that young people can have the best start for their futures, and our peers in the youth sector doing exciting and groundbreaking things.
We've been blown away by the creativity, drive and resilience young people have shown this year. We're inspired by their innovative ideas and excited by the ways they challenge us to keep improving.
