Promoting mental health and wellbeing in young people and staff

This March we’re hosting two exciting Foyer Connect events dedicated to promoting the mental health and wellbeing of young people and staff in our network. These events give Foyer workers the opportunity to share best practice and be inspired by new and innovative approaches. Foyer Connect events are part of our drive to better meet the needs and aspirations of staff working in direct delivery roles.

What will be covered in the events?

You’ll have the opportunity to meet like minded staff from other Foyers to share, learn and connect. By engaging in meaningful conversation with other practitioners, you’ll gain insights and exchange information that not only supports young people’s mental health in your service, but the health and wellbeing of staff there as well. We know that mental health is consistently a key concern for young people from our Foyer network: 77% reported that mental health is one of the three biggest challenges they face – a far higher number than the 44% who reported housing as their greatest challenge (results from our Big Questions survey).

As part of the event, you’ll take away a range of practical tools you can use in your service, including ideas for activities and a comprehensive mental health toolkit to put into practice. There’ll be an interactive workshop from expert speakers States Of Mind who’ll introduce their Selfology resource – a practical toolkit for supporting young people with their mental wellbeing. You’ll receive a printed copy of the brand-new Selfology resource, developed based on feedback from Foyers taking part in the Connecting Minds project (from 2021-22), to use in your service.

Last, but not least! We’ll also be launching ReRooted – our newest programme with a focus on mental health and wellbeing. Designed in consultation with the Foyer community, ReRooted is about creating the right conditions in which young people can form strong roots, grow their skills and talents, and have fruitful, thriving futures – whatever their past experiences might be.
