In July this year, the Mitie Foundation got in touch with the Foyer Federation to offer the organisation’s skilled staff up for some volunteer projects. YMCA DownsLink Group requested help redecorating the inside of the Guildford Foyer, including the lobby, communal kitchen, ground floor corridor and staircase – and the Mitie team were ready to rise to the challenge.
A team of three Mitie tradespeople set to work – Contracts Manager Mark Pledger, Working Foreman Sean Conroy, and Painter Jay Beer. The brief was to create a positive and happy atmosphere in the Foyer, which made the choice of vibrant colours, like yellow and green, very important. Part of the challenge was to complete the work while still enabling young people to fully make use of the facilities in the service, so the project timetable was planed carefully with this in mind – including precautionary measures to isolate different areas of work.
As you can see from the pictures, the finish is certainly cheerful and positive, and the experience was a good one for the Foyer staff and residents:
‘‘Right from initial phone calls, to planning and site visits – the team were excellent. I can’t praise and thank you all enough for all your help. It’s really lifted the residents, especially to have the kitchen wall painted and for a general feel-good vibe having the hallways and entrance freshly painted. It’s even nudged us to find some time to tidy and sort these areas for the better of our residents.
“The two decorators were a pleasure to have around, they were polite and friendly and always kept their working areas tidy and were aware of the constant flow of people passing by and their safety. They worked really hard and nothing seemed to be a bother.” - Jessica Hofgartner-Griffiss, Inspire Coach.
Thanks to the Mitie team for their fantastic work!
